Demulsifiers are surfactants used in breaking emulsions in crude oils. They are mainly used in processing the crude oil which commonly consists of significant amounts of water in form of emulsion as well as salts. The presence of salt and water results in corrosion and scale formation in equipment and pipelines. Therefore, elimination of them is essential before transportation to refineries or for export. Demulsifiers are widely consumed in upstream industry including offshore and onshore production and desalting units as well as downstream industries like refineries.
